Me & Patrick - R&D

Swooping & cruising around the Trestle with Pat. Shots by Josh Walker

Chad on 7'0 Thruster

A little bit south of Trestles I found a few lefts.

Back at my favorite bank. I had some trouble being in the right spot but this turn felt particularly nice. I rode my 7'0 x 19 x 2 3/8 thruster this day. It has a Maurice Cole /Tom Curren inspired reverse vee bottom. The plan shape reminds me a bit of Skips K-Models a little. Pretty obsessed with three fins right now. Especially these NVS boomerang/frye ones. The grip and twang they have, combined with the minimal amount of area. Combines nice with this board.

This was one of the bigger waves I got. I basically straightlined it trying to beat the upcoming section. It had so much bump and warble on the face. The rolled / Vee bottom was cutting through it nice but i felt like I was stuck in the line and at the mercy of the speed of the wave. A little hard to generate the speed i wanted in such a fat faced bump burger.

This Dragon lam was gifted to me by Joe Blair after we hungout and did an interview in November. That interview will be coming out soon in collaboration with Dick Brewer surfboards. This board definitely has some Blair / Brewer energy put into it.

Volan deck patch for added stength. I orginally shaped this for a recent trip to Nicaragua.

Pat on 'DogFish'

Pat Sutliff is one of my favorite surfers and my most adept test pilots. He can back up anything hes feeling and take the boards I make for him and ride them to there limitations. I take his opinions and input really seriously. I think thats one of the most important aspects as a shaper. Listening to the people who are riding your boards and being able to interpret there feelings. Custom surfboards are a process and a relationship built over time with one another. Sometimes you nail it for a one off board for someone and sometimes they don't like it. But real progress is made over time and communicating with one another.

Pat pushing my personal 6'6 E-wing Gun-Fish radically at our favorite point in town.
