Custom Surfboards

    It has become very fashionable for shapers to write "handshaped" on their finished boards. Whether they are handshaped or a scrubbed cnc cut, I have noticed this trend and find it important to differentiate. But, most shapers do not communicate it and maybe that isn't even important to you. But im guessing if you are here, it is.

    I shape with no usage of CNC or machine pre cuts. I understand its place and usage in certain corners of design.  The main benefits being for mass production or extreme accuracy and modification for world tour athletes. I also understand the history of production shaping machines dating back to the 60s. The main hesitation I have for the widely accepted CNC machine is by operating like this, we have cheapened the product and taken all of the craft and soul out of shaping a surfboard. I get that finish scrubbing is still hands on, but it is not the same. In a day an age where computers and tech operate more then 90% of our time, I find the approach to traditional hand shaping the most fulfilling for me. We contribute so much waste by creating surfboards, and I am trying to minimize my footprint as best as I can by creating a minimal amount of high quality, well built, custom surfboards for a small amount of people. It is important to me to continue the tradition of cutting a shape out with a handsaw and mastering a planer.

All of my shaping & glassing is done at Resin Services in San Juan Capistrano, California. All of my fins are custom foiled by Marlin Bacon (101 fins). Recently, Tommy Kroll has been foiling fiberglass custom templates of mine that I am excited to start using on boards for customers. Each part of the surfboard is either coming from me or someone I know personally.

 My surfing is ever evolving and the designs I ride are as well. If you see a surfboard I am riding or shaping that fancies your interest, I am taking orders for custom shapes that fit your surfing style & needs while staying true to the school of design & surfing I abide by.
