Joe Blair Interview

In November 2025 I was invited by Chuck Brewer to drive down to Solana Beach and sit down and hang with Joe Blair. We filmed an interview about his relationship with Dick Brewer in the 70s and shaping under his label. Joe has been shaping some newer boards under the Brewer label inspired by templates and designs of the late 60s and 70s. At the time of this interview, Joe had shaped a 6'11 Slot Nose Pocket Rocket single fin for The Boardroom Show. This board is still available at Icons of Surf in San Clemente if you are interested in purchasing.

Hanging at Joe's was really special. Hanging with that generation is so educational and so much fun. He is one of the remaining Titans of the production hand shaping era. There's so much soul the instant you enter his shop too. I never got to meet DB but I can see the influence he had on Joe and the legacy hes carried with him. Hes been through it all. He even checked out a couple of my boards and we talked about his very opiniated fin placement concepts. Craig Hollingsworth came by and they shared stories. Craig used to glass some of Dicks boards in the 70s and remembered some of the slot noses that came through. Ill put out some of that discussion eventually.

Thank you so much to Chuck for including me and producing this. These stories are what keep our culture alive.
